Are you an experienced and qualified English Language Teacher and assessment developer with significant experience developing and maintaining detailed test specifications for ESL / EFL assessment? 

Worldteachers are working closely in partnership with the public schools in the UAE and their education reform programme. We are helping them recruit experienced ESL Exam specialists to  in one of the following Emirates -  Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Dubai and Umm Al Quwain.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed test specifications for the English Language test and will use those specifications to construct a high-quality system of exams.

 

Job description

Principle Tasks:

  1. Developing clear and detailed test blueprints and specifications.
  2. Recruiting, training and managing an effective team of voluntary test writers from educational environments.
  3. Constructing the final test versions and managing all processes and preparations for secure administration.
  4. Statistically analyzing the overall quality of the exams, the sub-domains, and the individual items on all tests.
  5. Providing feedback and training to item writers on the quality of their work.
  6. Securely building and maintaining a high-quality item bank.
  7. Providing leadership in an ongoing and iterative way for improvements in all aspects of the testing system.
  8. Responsible for leading the development and deployment of a system of standardized tests for English as a Foreign Language.
  9. Responsible for taking an active role in collecting data from stakeholders on how successfully the tests are being deployed and used across the system.
  10. Responsible for leading the provision of communication of results, training and support, though a programme of seminars and workshops, to inform unit writers on international best practices that support unit writing best practice standards.
  11. Responsible for identifying and develop areas of research of publishable quality that would benefit and inform the successful implementation and ongoing improvement of the testing system.
  12. Any other duties as may be required.

Job requirements

Experience Required: Minimum 8-10 years of experience working in an education context relating to English as a Second or Foreign Language. Working knowledge of the CEFR. Demonstrated knowledge of test construction and item writing.

Education Requirements:  Internationally-recognized degree in TESOL or equivalent.

Competency Required:

  1. Minimum of C2 competence in English or native English learner.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of educational measurement as it relates to languages in an instructional context, in particular, how it relates to the CEFR.
  3. Demonstrated ability to construct high-quality exams from subject blueprints and to evaluate item writers’ submission and the effectiveness of blue prints, item writing and examination construction.
  4. Be able to analyze data from diverse sources and make recommendations for decision makers on improvement measures.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work within a computer-mediated exam system and a commitment to pursue the appropriate use of available technology.
  6. Experience track record of working in education and training in multicultural environments.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the MS Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  8. Demonstrated ability to communicate locally and internationally.
  9. Demonstrated ability to provide training to potential item writers and to teachers within the education system on sound test construction principles.
  10. Highly developed leadership and effective management skills, with capacity to initiate, implement and sustain improvements within a team environment, as well as the ability to work flexibly and cooperatively as a member of a team.
